  The medical record number AKA MRN143207 has no meaning apart from the locations of City of Hope, Duarte, CA, as I was reminded yesterday (2/17/26) for the annual visit with my original oncologist, Ryotaro Nakamura, MD. What a far cry from our first encounter in 2006.  Yes, two decades have passed since my DX (diagnosis) with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL, blastoid type) and next year will mark the 20th anniversary of the allogeneic stem cell transplant from an unrelated German donor.  The whole story is told in the book, JustinTime.

  Given the success of my journey with MCL since 2006, I want to share potential letters with those patients, families, and caregivers facing similar struggles and issues. No one can have too much hope! Dear __________ To those recently diagnosed with cancer: I know the news can be overwhelming. But you are not alone. You have strength within you, and a community willing to walk beside you. You have a whole community of people who love and support you, and we are all here to help you through this difficult time.
